Teacher Feedback

Sponsorship advert - Mid Level 2 - a great idea with appropriate music. Unfortunately it's apparent this was filmed at the last minute - your actors could have put more "oomph" into their acting and you need to cut the last shot of the girl laughing out.

Advert - Mid Level 2 - your idea for this had many more scenes included and it would be great if you included some of them. A title is needed at the end showing the product. The music isn't a definite yes - it could be more contemporary like your sponsorship ad is.

In response to this feedback we are going to take on board the teachers pointers. We will most likely try and refilm some of the sponership adevert, and i will have a think over the next few days of how to imporve it. For the main advert they gave us feedback for, we have a scene to film and put in so that should be no problem. We may have to re consider the music, however this was a posotive point that the peers gave us about our advert (& in all fairness they are out target market not old teachers).

On tuesday we are going to re-film the first advert in the resturant udring the day time to get maxium use of light.

Peer Feedback

In todays lesson, we peer assesed each work (those that had done moving image).
Here is the respone we got from our classmates about our sponership advert & the second advert we have filmed.

Sponership

-Need to consider ending it with a Title/Image of product
-The cheesyness of the advert links well with the theme
-The last shot could be cut shorter

Second Advert
-Some narration could be added
-'Oven shot' works well.
-Music fits well
-Title at the end is needed
-Contrast with the speed of Sadie moving fast and the slow clock looks good

We are going to take these points on board, in order to create a better peices of coursework.

We Have Now...

been told we have untill the end of January to complete out coursework. This means we have longer to film, and to also refilm certain bits thats need improving.

Next week

The targets for this weekend and next week are:

-Re-film the rest of the first advert
-Edit the first advert
-Add music to the first advert
-Film the beginning of the second advert
-Edit the beginning of the first advert

Even though the school's equiptment is awful, we have to make do as we have no other back up. So we have to get on with it.

Editing

As yesterday went terribly wrong, i had come into school today optimistic. This lesson i have editied the beginning of the first advert as Eve is ill at home. I have taken a camera out to record the rest of the first advert. I have asked Eve if she could ring up her boss to see if we can use the poachers again. I also got feedback from my radio advert that I filmed and editied wednesday. Mrs Hammond had said it was good and there is no point re-filming it to gain or loose a mark as Mrs Somel suggested. Thankfully we have a week extension due to Eve's illness.

Joke Of A Day

today was a nightmare!!

I came into school, we edited the sound into the tv sponership sequence, and the sound into the second advert (in the kitchen). Then we filmed the addiction group in a drama room with a Drama teacher and four student. BUT .... after we did this when trying to upload it hadn;t actually recorded and the camera did't pick it up. We could not re film this again as there was a lesson and the drama teacher could not do it.. soooooooooooooo

We filmed the car park scene with camera 5, which we was told was old however would work. But again when we came to upload it on the macs the visual image was there but no audio sound because the camera was faulty.

We were told to then refilm but this was the time i had my doctors appointment so could not re film. I did consider not going in order to re film but though that would not be the right option. I have now been told that i have a chest infection and am on anti bitotics and need to be getting rest. However i wont be getting rest because i have to be in school to re-film.

Also while i am on a rant, i think the school is out of order giving certain individuals extentions because of whatever reasons. This is not fair as i it should be one rule for everyone.

AHHH

I am very much disliking how porely i am at the minute, and how much work we have to do in order to meet our deadline. Tomorrow morning i am going to the Doctors so hopefully i will get somthing to make me feel a little better...!

I know being ill is no excuse because like alot of people we are behind, however it dosn't help the situation. This has effected our plans as we can't re-film at the poachers now becausethe time available given to me in order to do this now taken up with me going to the doctors...

After i come back, i am going to infect Lutterworth and go and help Heather as much as i can to film the short bits we have to do for both adverts and just put the music onto the radio avdertisment. After this is done, we will do outr best to film at poachers on thursday morning, and then edit thursday afternoon and evening and put finishing touches to it Friday. This is not ideal as it will be rushed in order to get it done friday. I just pray there is enough camera and mac's availabe.

Almost forgot..

Another of the ancillary tasks is the radio advert which i will be recording tonight. I will use my mum and dad rather than teenagers so the advert seems more relaistic. I wil also edit that tomorrow morning before we start our first advert.

Tomorrow's plan

I will be in school in the morning so i will add the music to our sponsorship advert. Unfortunately Eve is very ill at the minute with what we think is the early stages of Glandular Fever. So she is booking herself into the doctors tomorrow. Hopefully we will be able to film in the poachers after she has been to the doctors. We will be filming the first advert becuase last time we filmed it we couldn't use the material as the lighting was terrible. We would be heading back up to school after that so we can edit as much as we can until thursday. Get well soon Eve!

Filming the sponsorship advert

For our sponsorship advert filmed 3 people having a sort of yoga class. I was the instructer as we couldn't find anyone else available to do it. We basically filmed them holding a doodle noodle pot but excersising with it. Luckily, we managed to finish filming within an hour as the rest of mine and Eve's time was for editing. We finished editing the sponsorship advert and extracted all sounds from the clips. I added recorded sounds of my voice throughout the advert, but making sure my voice was in sync to the movement of my mouth. I also added at the end 'Doodle Noodle's sponsoers Britania hight'. as this is a sponsorship advert. Britania hight links to the advert as it's all about dancing and excersising. Eve has found some tracks of copywirte free aerobic uptempo music that we can use so i am picking it up from her later to add to the advert tomorrow.

The Next few DaysPlan!!

As the dealine is on friday we have to seriously plan and use our time wisely so that we can meet the dealine. We have perpared what we are going to do each day and we will definatly stick to this no matter what!

Plan Of Action For Tomorrow

1. For out media lessson tomorrow i will not be able to make it because of dentist! Grrr.. So heather is going to prepare the radio advert and then come to my house where we can record it in quiet.

2. Then we are going to the Pre school where we are going to film the 'Addicted noodles' scene. Heather Mum is acting as the counceller, and we have asked a few of out friends to also be in it.

Tuesday

1. During media lesson period 2, we are going to film out anciallry task (Tv sponership sequence). This is not ideal as we need the time to edit during this lesson however this is the only time the dance studio is free for us to use.

3. I have two freees thirds and fourth so during this time i am going to edit all of the Tv sponership sequence, the rest of the ssecond advert.

4. We are going to edit the radio advertisment, this may have to be after school if we do not have time.

Wedndesday

1. Heather is free all day, and i am up untill twelve oclock. We are going to film the section of the first advert in the car park during first lesson, edit this during second.

2. We are going re-film the first advert at the resturant at about 4 oclock. This will be really simple as we are simply just doing what we have already done previously.

Thursday

1. We will edit the first advert during 3rd and fourth lesson. We will stay behind school if needs be.

if we stick to this, we will be fine :)

More Editing On The Second Advert

We tried to shorten the advert lengith so we cut some time of each shot. This also helped give us the fast pace editing we were looking for.

Today I added the music to the advert. I have to cut the start and then repeat it so it kept the climax in the music at the end where she is satisfied.

Monday, 30 November 2009

Filming and Editing

we have filmed the kitchen scene for advert number 2!.. We did this is Heathers kitchen. We got lots of material so that we can have a play around and edit. We got all the shots which we planned to do.

We have also editied all of this. We have too much material so out aim for next lesson is to try and cut it down as much as we can so that we have time to put in the bit about the women being at the 'Doodle Noodle addiciton club'. On the macs we speeded up the mojirty of the shots a little to give the scene of urgency, and this worked quite welll.

Plan For TV Sponership

as the main theme throuhgout out adverts is humour, we decided to go down this route too... a Tv sponsership is sorter than a normal advert, usually between 20-30 seconds long.

We have looked at a few exisiting one son youtube such as:
Harveys sponersing coronation street
Talk Talk sponsering Big Brother

These adverts do not always have a meaning, but do link in some way. The aim is obviously to promote thier product, but not in the same way the actual advert would. For ours, we have decided to have three dancers doing a session holding the Doodle snack. It is going to be light hearted and funny, but avdertising the product and also spondering somthing els.

Friday, 27 November 2009

I Hate

how poor Lutterworth is with camera and Mac's. How do you they expect three classes of 20 students to all meet the same dealine with 9 poor excuse for camera and 3 Mac's... Absolutely ridiuculous. The prices they charge in the canteen these days is surely enough to buy a brand new media studio.!

Me and Heather wanted to book a camera for filming this weekend. "sorry but there all taken up"

Filming

Looking at other people's blogs, we've realised that we need to get our skates on. We have decided to film on thursday during Mrs Hammonds lesson. I am going to ask my mum if i can use her pre school to film in as we need quite a big space. We will also use my kitchen for the 'temptation' scene. Eve had a good idea to film some of the first advert as well on thursday. The car park scene. This will be useful for us as it will kill two birds with one stone.

Ancilary Task

Eve and I haven't been very organised lately so we have got together and discussed one of our ancilary tasks. The radio advert. We have a free lesson Monday so we will book out a camera and get down to buisness.

Tuesday, 10 November 2009

This Thursday

we have booked out a camera and will be doing some filming of some description.. i will eb checking if we can film in the resturant, but if not we are either going to begin out second advert or one of our ancillary taskts...

not that long untill the dealine, we need to get our skates on

Music For Second Advert

We want quick upbeat music to match the advert and give a sense of urgency.

I found the track we are going to use of www.Jamando.co.uk which is a copy write free website. It is a jazz track, but i really like the begining and think it will go well, i will see what Heather thinks about it.

It is Italian, the name of it is Pasteque by Suerte.

Filming

As we realised we can't use material we filmed the other sunday we really need to get together and film again pronto! I need to liase with eve to see when the restaurant is free again. We also need to start thinking about our ancillary tasks as the due date is near.

We Can't

... use the material we filmed last Sunday, because we uploaded to have a look what it looked like on the macs and realised the lighting was too dull and had an ornagey tone. This is because we filmed when it was dark outside and depended on indoor lighting.

We wil film again but during the day

At least we had a go and had a chance to pracitise and see what shots work.

Collective Identity

To what extent do these adverts conform to or subvert traditional gender roles? To what extent do they conform to or subvert traditional gender roles?
Consider textual details (mise en scene, music, voice over etc) in your analysis.

This advert conforms to the tradtional gender role for boys. The voice over of the advert is a teenage male which reflects the target audience or close to the age range. The diolouge consitics of words such as 'cool' which is more relevent to boys and used more in thier vocabulary. The mise on scene has a green wash throughout which is a sterotypical masculine colour. The mise on scence also has technical gadgets which are targeted at males. The editing is fast paces to add to the advert seeming dramatic. The background music consists of a upbeat rhymthm with wooshing sounds which anchor to the flying cards, and also sounds of beeping sounds which links to the gadgets on screen. This advert would not attract the younger female audience in any way as everything is targeted to the male gender.

As you can clearly see from the very beginning of this advert it has targeted young girls as the background is pink and the backing vocals are 'I love ponies'. We immidiately know that the age range is less than 13 years old as young girls like ponies. The camera angles and editing is fast paced, this i feel is to make the ponies seem more exciting and the voice over is a woman enthusiastically commentating what the horses can do. eg 'And now a fresh apple, WOW'. Clearly this advert is stereotyping young girls as the there wouldn't be any pink colour and there is a woman voice over.

Not Been Able To Edit Yet

Not had a lesson or any free time to upload and have a look at what we have done so far... think it will be tuesday next week when we are given the time to do so.

++++ On a plus note, i think our blog is begining to look really good now, obviously one of the best :)

More Pulp Fiction..

Tatrantino uses referances to other films to add to the postmodern theme. This relies on the contexual understanding of the audience however, as they may not been understood if not watched. This picture shows link between two films because of
Mia's classic 'bobbed' haircut styled after Louise Brooks in Pandora's Box (1928 G.W. Pabst)

Reference to Marilyn Monroe's skirt flying up over a subway grating in The Seven Year Itch (1955 Billy Wilder)

When Butch considers saves Marcellus he takes great consideration in choosing a weapon. If this wasn't aimed to be postmodern the more realistic thing to do would be to grab the nearest thing to him. These weapons all have interlinks with other films:
Hammer — The Toolbox Murders (1978)
Baseball bat—Walking Tall (1973)
Chainsaw — The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

'Pulp Fiction'

In the past couple of Mr Fords lessons we have been looking at the film 'Pulp Fiction' directed by Quentin Tarantino. 'Pulp Fiction' is basically about four hitmen who link into one another in four tales of violence. The criticism for this film has been that becuase the film makes so many intertextual refrences is so sly and knowing that it doesn't seem 'real' it feels/looks like a construction. The question we got asked was, does this make it more postmodern? I feel it does for example, in the real world, if somone were to have an overdose like Mia Wallace did in the film, shooting an adrenaline injection through the breast plate would not work as the breast plate is too strong to take it so obviously this was done for dramatic effect. Wheras the storylines Tatrantino and Avary used such as rape, this is realistic. I enjoyed the film and enjoyed the structure of it as there were many flashbacks, such as the begining was at the end.

Answer To Music Problem

I have spoken to Mr. Ford, & We cannot use normal use for the resturant scene. We need to get searching on non-copywrited sites for somthing we feel apporopirate for when we begin to edit what we have started to film yet.

First Filming Report

Tongith we did our first lot of filming! It went well and we did lots of different angels and filmed alot of material so that we can see how it looks and pick and choose what looks best..

It took us a while to get started because we had the giggles, but once we got over that we worked well together. We did have one problem and that was the music! We filmed a bit with the music in the background & then realised it wouldnt have the same continuity throughout with stopping and starting so dicided to film in silence and then edit the sound in.

DURRRR!

obviously something would have to go wrong..

well not exactly, but we forgot to get a film for the camera from school. But Sarah Humphrey (the living legend) has a spair one, so guess i will be driving to Lutterworth tomorrow to pick it up. Also Jack & Simon are now helpin with our filming as Ash has work, so will be picking them up too.

Packaging Maybe?

Obviously we have to create our own brand and packaging to go with the product. We are going to use an exisitng container and make our own logo and packaging. I had a go on paint at creating one.. (i'm not the most creative person in the world but did have a go). I used squiggely lines to conote the idea of the 'Doodle'. It is fairly simple, but im guessing we arn't excpected to do somthing amazing and wont be getting marked on this. I will print it out and see how it looks stuck onto a container.

I think Heather might have alredy had a go at one, but there is no harm in us both having a go and deciding which one to use :)

'Doodle Noodle's'

As we are filming tomorrow, I bought a Pot Noodle but customised it to make it our own. I simply used word to create the packaging for 'Doodle Noodles'. It is quite tempting not to eat it!

Where To Be:

Because the people in out advert havn't ever been to the resturant where we are filming i have found a map so they know what street ect .. xxx

Filming

We are planning to start filming on Sunday as Eve mentioned earler in the post. Realistically, we are looking to get the whole of the first advert filmed as the advert is going to be 30 seconds long so it shouldn't be a problem. I will make sure the cast know of our plans. All we really need to do for now is make sure we have all the equipment we need!

Wednesday, 21 October 2009

Music - First Advert

ignoring the problem i have had a listen to a few exisitng records we have at work.
We need calm, background music so the audience is not nessicerly even aware of which song but adds atmosphere to the scene. I have come up with here is an example..

Tuesday, 20 October 2009

Music Problem?

obviously for the first advert we need to set the scene of a restuarant and our main focus isnt music however this does need to be considerd. I dont know the situation about usuing copywrite music but surely it shoudlnt be a major issue like other people as the focus isnt on the music and is on the dialect of the people.

This will also be impossible to play non copywrite music as i cannot play anyother music through the speakers at work other than what is the system.

I hope this dosn't cause too much of an issue.. i will email a teacher to check.

Monday, 19 October 2009

Sorry x

you can tell its half term from lack of posts... i apologise for my lazyness the past few days but will crack on with more research! also filming on sunday :D xx

Filming Preperations

This lesson I made sure I booked out a camera in advance so we know for sure that we can start filming in our half term as we were unable to film last Sunday. So all we have to do is rememeber to collect it on Friday!
We also need to write out a schedule of days Eve, Sadie, Ash and I are free so let us know please!

Ditching Web Pop Ups

Today we were thinking more about our ancilary tasks. After spending a long time searching the internet for examples of web pop ups, we came to the conclusion that this is the task we do not want to persue. Our reasons for this are all modern computors have anti-virus which block forms of pop ups, and without examples it would be hard to make a sucessful one. We feel web pop ups to advertise products are abit out dated.

At least we can rule this one out and concentrate on the other two.

Monday, 12 October 2009

What Is A Web Pop Up?

Wikipedia Definition

Pop-up ads or pop-ups are a form of online advertising on the World Wide Web intended to attract web traffic or capture email addresses. It works when certain web sites open a new web browser window to display advertisements. The pop-up window containing an advertisement is usually generated by JavaScript, but can be generated by other means as well.

A variation on the pop-up window is the pop-under advertisement, which opens a new browser window hidden under the active window. Pop-unders do not interrupt the user immediately and are not seen until the covering window is closed, making it more difficult to determine which web site opened them.

Thinking About Ancilary Tasks

Although we could not film this Sunday this means we have more time for planning and time to think about our ancilary tasks..

We have the option of two out of the three

- Radio Advertisment
- Web Pop Up
- TV sponsership sequence

We have decided to do abit of research into all three before deciding which ones would be best for us and then researching and developing them two further.

Unable To Film

As you know we did arrange to be filming today, but unfortunatly it had to be cancelled because Sadie was very ill and was unable to come film with us which is a bit of a let down.. However, we will 100% be filming sometime in the week when we are all free (Let me know dates when you are) or at the weekend. We also have half term to crack on and hopefully get alot of material.

Kill Bill - Postmodernism

Media reality is the new reality. We no longer have any sense of the difference between real things, images of them, or real experiences and simulations of them. Represenations are re interpreted and played around with through pastiche and intertexual references. People will deliberately expose the text as constructed to tell the audience that the piece is not real and it never pretends to be real at any point, they don't try and hide the fact the media text is constructed.

An example of this is in media text is Quentin Tarantino's film 'Kill Bill'. Tarantino delibaraty wants the audience to recognise this is not real life, merly a film so he uses techiniques to bring the audince back to realisation of this. Firstly, the mise on scene in shows the audience the set of the film rather than real life; as birds eye view shots seeing theough the ceiling of a house is rarley used.

Also, subtle techniques also reflect postmoderism. There is a childs painting on the wall which is meant to just be a doodle or simple painting, but indicates splattered blood which ties in with what is about to happen. The cereal is called "kaboom" showing the audience a gun exposion may happen. The spraying blood is exagerated and not realistic.

For our advert it would not be suitable to use any postmodern elements, as we want the audience to percieve our product how it is portrayed with no underlying meaning or message. We want the scene to be realistic.

Friday, 9 October 2009

Costume

For our first advert the costume the characters play needs to reflect and link with the mise-en scene. This is why we have decicded for our characters to be well dressed in 'going out' clothng.

I know this is really bad attempt but it was abit of fun aswell !

Script - First Advert

Before we start to film our first advert we have to have a script prepared so our actors know what to say.

Script for Media Heather

Eve and I are undecided on our second scene so we plan to fim both takes and pick which scene is more effective. We start to film on sunday evening so i am pretty excited with how things will turn out.

Avertisment Theory

It is useful to note how directly a depicted person gazes out of the frame. A number of authors have explored this issue in relation to advertising in particular.

In study of women magazine adverts, Trevor Millum distinguished these forms of attention:
attention directed towards other people
attention directed to an object
attention directed to oneself
attention directed to reader/ camera
attention directed into middle distance, as in a state of reverie
direction or object of attention not discernable (cant make it out).

Relationships between those depicted:
reciprocal attention- directed at each other
divergent attention- directed at different things
object-oriented attention- both looking at the same thing
semi-reciprocal attention- attention of one person is on the other, whose attention is elsewhere.

The Seven Kinds..

'Cross Cultural Consumer Characterisation' (4C's)
In 1969 Dr Maslow was studying monkeys. He found that monkeys always made sure they weren't thirsty before looking for shelter and always made sure they found shelter before finding a companion. He then went on to study humans, and to his suprise, humans acted the same was as monkeys, for example humans never went out to find love before feeling secure. What became of this was, Dr Maslows hierachy of needs.
Young and Rubican researched on where people stood in the differernt catogories.
The hierachy of needs accepted that people from different cuntries were influenced by their culural background.
The explorer is driven by a need for discovery. They respond to brands that offer new sensations. They will explore the differernt flavours.
The Aspirer is driven by other people's perception rather than their own opinion. Their core need for life is status so they are drawn to an attractive brand.
The succeeder has self confidence and tends to be very organised. For brands they would often seek the best becuase that is what they feel they deserve. Their core need for life is control.
The reformer is very different in comparison to the explorer as they will not buy things just because they are new. The reformer searches for enlightenment.
The mainstream are the largest group whitin the 4C's. They respond to big established family brands. Their core need for life is security.
The struggler lives for today and strives on visual and physical sensation. They seek escape.
The resigned are mostly the older generation who's values have been built up over time. Their brand choices are driven by a need for safety and for economy so they choose what is familier to them.

I realise that the relevent catogories that link with our advert are the struggler and the explorer. People that will buy our product will buy it in the heat of the moment becuase it's quick and easy to make. They will long to explore the differerent flavours 'Doodle Noodles' create theorefor the rest of the catogories will not be applicable.

This is Eve's results when she did the questionaire on the powerpoint

Todays Lesson

In Todays lesson we are compleating the script together so we can talk and decide together as this is a key element and it should not just be deicded by one person.. Also finishing the story board for our first advert so we are all set to go on Sunday.

Other Peoples Blogs

I have linkd everyone els's blogs in our media class to our blog. I have also done this with some other people in other classes who are in our adverts. I think this is important as we can gain inspiration from other peoples blogs, and hopefully they can do the same from ours.

We also would appricate feedback on ideas and suggestions if any of you nosy people are looking.. !! Please :)

Reminder About Filming!

Just to make it abit more fun ;)

Hope you all can make it, let me know otherwise! Thanks Eve x

Starting To Think About Music

Just thinking about the sort of music we will need for both our adverts.. Although it is a key part because both adverts orientate around speech its not as important to us just yet as perhaps people doing a music video (obiously).

For the first advert i think there needs to be silence when the male is in the car park so we can here the diagetic sounds which will give a better sense of the mise-en scene, and then while in the restuarant i think subtle background music is nessicery as this would be the norm in that sort of enviroment.

For the second advery i think the music needs to be more upbeat and faster temop while the women is int he kitchen to give the audience sense of urgency.

I've been looking on a few copywrite free websites and having a listen. I'll upload a few of my favourites in the next few days to see what you think

The Plan For This Week

As we have already chose our cast and decided on location, the plan for this week is to
-Finish our storyboard of shots for the first advert
-Start the storyboard for our second advert
-Write a script for the first advert
-Start filming/playing around with ideas for the first advert

Eve and I have discussed, and the plan was to start filming on Sunday as that is when the restaurant is closed and when our cast members are free. As you can see in our blog, the cast is Sadie Owen and Mitch Hall. We have had to replace Micth with Ash Munton as Mitch will not be free on the weekends and Ash is much more reliable.

Also, Eve and I have come to a decision and have agreed that I write the script and she can finish the storyboards. This way we are splitting the workload.
Music is part of our to do list but if we do not have time it'll have to move to the week after.

We also need to think about our radio advert. This can wait until the adverts are developing as it is not as important just yet.

Audience Lesson

In a recent lesson, we learn about target audience. We have considered this for our product and advertisments, however this is looking at it in greater detail.

There are different catogries in todays population (to do with income), These are not nessicerly always correct but usualy are about right:
CA -profesional, high earning people
CB -Middle managment, bank managers
CC -Jounier managment, shop manager
CC2-skilled manual people, carpenter
CD -semi skilled or un skilled, cleaner
CE -unemployed, students

For 'Doodle Noodles' we could narrow otu target audience into the social group CC2, CD, or CE. The reason being for this is the product we are promoting will be a reasonable cheap noodle snack which high earner may not choose eat, wheras lower budgeted people in societ as manual labourers, and students may choose because of costing and convience. Our product may appeal to people in each socail catergie, and we do not want to rule these people out.

We also learnt about the demographic and geographic profile of our audiance, this dicibes where your target market is likely to be from and what there life style may be like. for our product it is hard to pin point where our audience could be located.

We have took these things into concideration for when we film, in order to make sure we do reach out to the audience in which we aim to target.

Resturant Shots

In order to set the scene and i we first need a long shot of the resturant so that the audience can gain context. This is a similar shot to what we might use (obviously without the violence). We are also going to use extrasd to fill the resturant. This shot will be quick but is essential.

I think it is imporant to use corrct shots to give the audience the mood of being in a resturant, and show the relationship between the characters. I found this clip, and would like to use it for inspiration. I like the way the two people are sitting oppostie each other and the use of over the shoulder shots so both characters are included in the frame. This clip then changes to another over the shoulder shot to see the other person.

Story Board - Second Advert

This is the story board i have drawn out for our second advert. I have drew the basic shots of what we need but left room for us to change slightly. (My drawing is not amazing but i did try). I then took pictures and created a presenatation.

Peep Inside Where Were Filming

I was bored today at work, so have taken some photographs of the setting in which we will film the first advert in the restaurant. This is so that we can get a feel for how we will set the scene and use camera angles.. Here are a few photos just to get a feel of the sort of atmospeher we would want to create. I think it would be imporant to include a long shot of the restuarant first in order for the audiene to understand the context of the advert.

This is the table (or one extreamly simialr) that the two people staring in the advert will be sitting. By having them on an angle we will be able to see both of thier facial expressions at the same time. Obviously when filming we will play around with different angles to see which ones works best.

The Clock Shot

Just had a quick thought about about some of the shots that would look good in our second advert. I partically like this one of the clock becuause it gives the audience a sense of urgency. I think we could use a similar one to this for when the lady is in the kitchen looking at the clock.. what do you think Heather?

Our Second Advert..

We have spent alot of time thinking about our second advert and the plot. We wanted them both to link but be different.

With our first advert we feel it mainly appeals to a target audience, so the second needs to also apply to the female audience. We have gone down the route of selling 'Doodle Noodles' as irristitable..

The plot

Woman will be in kitchen, shots of kettle, clock, and fingers and tapping getting the audience intregued into what is happending. Then there will be a fade showing the woman at a 'Doodle Noodle addict metting' where she will be sitting with other addicts talking about thier addiciton. Finally, back to the kitchen where she cannot resist. the advert will end with a slogan and image of the product.

Story Boarding

In todays lessons we drew up the majority of our story board for the first advert, and talked about the shots we want to use. This will give us alot of guidence and inspiration when we beging to film. We don't intend to stick to it like glue, because last year we found it very helful to play around with a variety of shots, because some of which we storyboarded did not work so well.

We will finish this and upload it shortly.

Todorov

Todorov's media theory is that all films and media texts have three states.

Equilibrium - Normal State, Calm
Disruption - Action or Confilct
New Equilibrium - The state after the conflict, either resolved or left unresolved.

This theory links to out first advert as the disruption is the way in which the man eats the 'Doodle Noodles'. Then new equilbrium has left a state of anger and dissaprovel.

It also links to our second advert as the disruption is the lady stressing about eating the noodles, and the the new equilbiruim is the fact she has eaten the noodles.

The Pitch

This is the presenation we did for our pitch for our first advert.. We also have a video of us delivering our pitch, which i may upload soon.

To Do List

We have got to crack on this week. I know so far we have not be as good as we could of been, partly due to Heather being away for the past 5 lessons, however not an excuse i know..! We have a list of things that need doing in order for us to proceed with our practical. These will be done at the end of this week:

- Upload our presentation via youtube or slide share
- Create our storyboards of the shot lists
- Create story board for our second advert
- Beging to think about our ancillary tasks

The Chosen Ones..

For our first advert in the restuarnt we have thought about the sort of people we want.. attractive looking (if you can say they are). The reason being for this is that it conforms to a sterotype of young adults in a restuarant smartly dressed, however the iriony is that the male acts like embaressinly eating his noodles. These two people are also friends so should work well together.

p.s Sorry Connor & Josh, you just didn't cut it when it comes to our advert :)

Rolan Barthes

Roland Barthes is a french litery theorist, philosopher, critic and semiotician. He
was the one who devised the theory that all media texts have narrative code. These could add deails to the film with are essential, or help tell the story line of the film.

Action Codes - this applies to any action within a film.
e.g a character reaching for knife means action scene is coming up.

Semantic Code - This is how the audience might interpret something and is personal,
e.g the suggested meaning.

The Cultural Code - Elements relating to the audience based on their knowledge.
e.g a film where a character is dressed as santa clause, we know that he is santa clause without anyone having to say.

Enigma Code - An element in a film that is not explained, and raises a problem within the storyline.
e.g something within a film that makes the audience think.

The Symbolic Code - This is the middle meaning, and it is linked very closely with Binary opposites.

Target Audience

The target audience is key to selling any product. We have thought hard about who we will be aiming out product at. I have made a powerpoint about the audience of our adverts.

About Our Pitch

I did our pitch to the rest of the class today. I discussed our product, out research, planning, mise-en scene, camera angels.. I did the presentation by myself as Heather was off school ill. The feedback was posotive from the group, and they like the idea with the male and female in the restaurant. I will be uploading the video of the pitch in the next few days.

Josh Plant and Connor Stanhope have volunteerd to be the male in our advert. We will be thinking about the parts soon. So the compition is on.. :)

Most Similar Product

Our inspiration for our procuct is the exisitng brand 'Pot Noodle'. This is currently the most succesful noddle snack for sale, which we would potnetially be opposing. Its advertisments is to thanks for its sicess, as they are are memrable and humerous, each having thier own identity. We need to think about packaging of the prouct in particular having a cathy logo. We are going to create out own logo, and hopefully create a similar finish to 'Pot Noodles'.

Our Advertising Product

We discussed our possible products to advertise and came to the conlusion that a Noodle fast food snack would be best for us. As a class we looked at conventions that are needed in a sucessful advertisment :

To make out prodcut sucessful we need to make sure all the conventions are conciderd in detail to make sure it links to target audience. We also want humour to be a key aspect of our advert.

Name for our prodcut :
'Doodle Noodles' (catchy rhyming name hopefully memorable).

Key Things To Consider..

By watching other adverts and gathering reserach and ideas, here are the key points we need to consider when making both out adverts.

Research

We have narrowed out search to a fast food snack. We are doing research into pot noodles as this is a product similar to what we would be aiming to do.

As you can see, these adverts focus on the humour. This

Existing Adverts

Soft drink advertisments :

The new 'Dr Pepper' adverts focus on the humour of the drink.
The point in this advert is letting the audience know that they can explore 23 flavours with every sip.
To promote this, they had the Dr pepper can singing in defferent languages to show that there is a different flavour to exerience with sip you take.
The camera focuses on the top of the can where the audience can see a face.

The sprite advert is quite different. It opens on a basketball court with a few teenagers around the edge of the court. The music the advert uses is happy go lucky with a catchy beat. One boy has a drink of sprite and then jumps into the middle of the court which to the audience suprise is a pool. On the last frame, 'Freedom For Thirst' comes up with the Sprite bottle, just to show freedom you have when you drink sprite.
The camera is not still at all which leads me to believe that everything is not static and it is free.

Cereals :

This advert was made on the show 'The apprentice'. For a challenge, the apprentices had to make an advert for a cereal. The ceral was called 'Wake up call'. Basically, the message this woman wanted to send out was, if you do not eat your cereal in the morning then you will not be 100% alert thoughout the day.
'At the start of the day everybody knows, without your wake up call you put your pants over your clothes'
This doesn't look like a typical advert you would see on the telivion as it is not professionaly done. We can see this throught the quality of it. Having said that, she has used many shots at differernt angles which doesn't make the advert boring.
We need to take this into considaration doing our storyboard.

In this Kellogs Crunchy nut advert, the producers have focused on the appeal of the cereal. They want to make it look like Crunchy nut is addictive therefor on their advert they have made a 'Crunchy nut lane' for permit holders only, where when you need your fix of Crunchy nut, you can drive into this lane, go home and have a bowl. If you do not have a permit, basically, you get blown up.
The camera has a lot of focus on certain things throughout the advert. Such as the permit, the smug man's facce without a permit, the crunchy nut lane etc.

We have narrowed our search to either a fast food product, soft drink or cereal brand. We both feel that these will allow us to make a comical advert with a 'twist' which will challange us further and also give us more options. More serious comericals advertising products such as perfumes, and cosmetics, run the risk of looking 'tacky'. Over the next few days we are going to further brainstorm and finalise our product.

Gathering Ideas

Here are some inital ideas we have thought about for products to advertise in the mind map. At the moments these are some the main proucts advertised on TV. Although we do not want to copy an existing advert, by doing a similar product we will have inspiration and more knowlange into what we need to do. Heather and I have also spent along time watching exisitng adverts on TV and on the internet. After watching adverts for all of the above the ones that caught out attention was the more humerous adverts.

Introduction To A2 Practical..

For this project Eve Chesterton and Heather Jordan have paired together. We chose to be a group together as we were for our AS practical where we made a 2 minuet horror film opening in which we both recieved high grades.

For this years, we have decided to do a a 2 30 seconds advertisments. We also hav e to do two of the following
A radio advertisments
A web pop up
A TV sponership sequence

We want the advert to be energetic as we know audiences do not enjoy watching adverts. We are still deciding what product to promote as we need a hard think of what target audience we are hitting. The main worries i feel we have on choosing this are understanding a 'tv sponsorship' and making two adverts to the best of our ability.
We have had a look at some popular adverts on television by exploring www.youtube.com and www.visitf4info.com.
